All Quilts
This is a set of all of my quilts so you can see them in one spot. There is not really an order to this list. these are scattered from different exhibitions and shows I have had across the US. My work stems from my experience and the world of art and craft. I make work as an Architect designing quilts.
[On my bed #3] 2010
86" X 86" 2010 Applique over a pieced log cabin quilt. This is the 2010 piece in my series of self portraits for the bed. It won Honorable mention at Quilt Festival this year.
[The-American-Context-#3]-American-Gothic
90" X 90" 2010 This is the 3rd piece In the American Context series where I am working with American Art icons on traditional american patchwork patterns. I have constructed the quilt base out of used and recycled clothes, linens, etc. The subjects are life size and reflect a contemporary demographic in the style of the one depicted on the original painting from which the title and pose are taken.
[The American Context #1] American Gothic Detail
This is a detail shot of the larger quilt I made as a part of the series The American Context
[Iconography #7] Rags to Riches
90" X 90" This piece is constructed from reclaimed Textiles. I took Clothes and sheets discarded from the people of NY and created this quilt. The quilt is an image of both Kanye and JAy-z. I used an Image by Troy Gua for the design. The colors are White: Sheets Blue: Jeans Black: Dress Clothes It then reads like a rags to riches story. It has been quilted in metallic thread so that when you are close it shines to speak to its subject matter in a tactile and visual way. There are 1 million quilting stitches on it. [My machine counted, is the only reason I know]

[My machine counted, is the only reason I know] I am standing there to give you scale. [and to feel all bad ass!]
[Iconography #8] Madonna Detail
36" X36" This is the second piece I have made for the traveling "Material witness" show. The Material girl I though was a good subject and a bit of a quip. There is a lot more quilting on this than a lot of my previous work. I have been influenced by the Manhattan Quilt Guild [who asked me to join when they found out about my residency on Governors Island this fall into winter. The women in this guild are all really proficient and experienced in this media so I am learning quite a lot by watching them. The quilting on this is an example of that. The technique is raw edge applique. The batting is cotton/bamboo blend. The thread is metallic thread so there is some sheen to it when seen in the right light. It has been sold and is hanging proudly in the living room of a good friend.

[Man Stuff #1] Hammer
72" x 84" [Man Stuff #1] Hammer This was the first pieces in the Man stuff series. I wanted to call to mind "the Floor Scrapers" Gustave Caillebotte, with the perspective and the diagonal visual movement towards the lower right. This series is a testament to my place in the art world as a male making art with a process that has been dominated by women primarily as utility. I wanted to show a "Man" item in a way that illustrates the use of fabric and light and stitching as notations of an art piece.
[Friends #1] Amelie
106" x 90" This was an image from the circus. the back ground becomes geometric and exists more as a frame and a depth indicator. The scale is large to accommodate the complexity of the features.
[Self Portrait #2] Tradition
[On my bed #1] Tradition 83" x 91" The generative methodology for this quilt came out of naptime revelry. I jumped out of bed and scribbled the idea down on a page of used notebook paper. The fabric came from either a box I found in a barn that I renovated or a bag of dresses that I found in my basement in my loft in Brooklyn-in the pile of trash out of the recently closed sweat shop. I used this one on my bed for the year of 2006.
[The American Context #4] Benjamin Franklin
105" X 105" This pieces is made to display on a bed. In order to see the image it has to be placed on a bed and viewed as one would a quilt in use. The pattern on the background however is designed to be seen displayed on the wall to reference the way art quilts are displayed.

[On My Bed #2] Cover
105"X105" 2007 This is the second in my yearly series of making a bed quilt with me on it and using it for a year. I slept under this quilt for the year 2007. The figure is life size.
