[Iconography #8] Madonna

This is the second piece I have made for the traveling "Material witness" show. The Material girl I though was a good subject and a bit of a quip.

There is a lot more quilting on this than a lot of my previous work. I have been influenced by the Manhattan Quilt Guild [who asked me to join when they found out about my residency on Governors Island this fall into winter. The women in this guild are all really proficient and experienced in this media so I am learning quite a lot by watching them. The quilting on this is an example of that.

The technique is raw edge applique.
The batting is cotton/bamboo blend.
The thread is metallic thread so there is some sheen to it when seen in the right light.

It has been sold and is hanging proudly in the living room of a good friend.
